Teaching Artist

Maggie Tonra is a teaching artist, director, and performer originally from San Antonio, Texas. She is passionate about bringing new stories to life and is a proud member of Goat in the Road, where she has participated in Goat in the Schools and Top Five Survival Moves. She loves working with young artists and finds joy in helping bring their original work to the stage. Previously, Maggie taught and directed at MacArthur High School in San Antonio and participated in the UIL One-Act Play competition. She has received five Best Actor awards from the Alamo Theatre Arts Council. She trained as a performer at DePaul University and earned her MFA in Directing from the University of New Orleans. Currently, Maggie is a teaching artist with GRP. She also helps lead the drama club at the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women with ArtSpot Productions, where participants create and perform an original play each year. You can find Maggie on the streets of New Orleans dancing and playing with Tamojunto, an Afro-Brazilian rhythm krewe. Outside the theatre, she loves sailing, hiking, and spending time with her sweet dog, Amadeus.
