Gallatin Alley Partners

Our Gallatin Alley partners are a huge part of this journey. These historical consultants, funders, and consulting organizations are offering their time, expertise, and resources to bring this project to life.

Michael Ross, Historical Consultant

Michael Ross is a specialist in American Constitutional History, U.S. Nineteenth Century History, and the Civil War and Reconstruction Eras. His second book, The Great New Orleans Kidnapping Case: Race, Law, and Justice in the Reconstruction Era (Oxford UP, 2014) tells the story of a sensational 1870 race trial that became intertwined with the fearsome political struggles of Reconstruction. The book won the 2014 Kemper Williams Prize and the 2015 New Orleans Public Library Choice Award for Non-Fiction and was a selection of the History Book Club. He has twice delivered Silverman lectures at the United States Supreme Court. Dr. Ross is working with Goat in the Road to advise on New Orleans during the Reconstruction Era.

Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies

The Ethel and Herman L. Midlo Center for New Orleans Studies is an incubator for public humanities research with an emphasis on civil rights. The Center also serves as a resource for many city and state initiatives related to public history, heritage, and preservation. They work with a network of community partners, museums and universities, cultural institutions, archives, public libraries, and educators.

Goat in the Road is proud to boast the Midlo Center as a Gallatin Alley partner.

New Orleans Jazz Museum

Through dynamic interactive exhibits, multigenerational educational programming, research facilities and engaging musical performances, the music New Orleans made famous is explored in all its forms.

Housed in the historic Old U.S. Mint, strategically located at the intersection of the French Quarter and the Frenchmen Street live music corridor, the New Orleans Jazz Museum is in the heart of the city’s vibrant music scene.

Through partnerships with local, national and international educational institutions, the New Orleans Jazz Museum promotes the global understanding of jazz as one of the most innovative, historically pivotal musical art forms in world history. Goat in the Road is proud to work with the Jazz Museum as a consulting organization for Gallatin Alley’s music.
